Candidates flock to Syracuse today as Election Day draws near

Syracuse, NY -- Candidates will descend on Syracuse today for a whirlwind of endorsements, rallies and meetings with voters on the last weekend before Tuesday's elections. This morning Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney endorsed Harry Wilson, the Republican candidate for state comptroller at county GOP headquarters. Syracuse, NY -- Candidates will descend on Syracuse today for a whirlwind of endorsements, rallies and meetings with voters on the last weekend before Tuesday's elections.

This morning Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney endorsed Harry Wilson, the Republican candidate for state comptroller at county GOP headquarters.

At noon Congressman Dan Maffei, D-25th, will join Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, state Senator David Valesky, D-49th, Assemblymen Al Stirpe, D-121st and William Magnarelli, D-120th and other local Democratic candidates for a get-out-the vote rally at Democratic Coordinated Campaign Headquarters at 333 E. Water St., Syracuse.

Maffei then travels to the Gardenview Diner, 650 Old Liverpool Road, Liverpool, to greet voters with U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, both Democrats. That event begins at 2:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino will attend a Mad as Hell rally at 2:30 p.m. at the Press Box, 29 East 1st Street, Oswego. He will also shake hands with voters at 7 p.m. at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and hold another rally at 8:30 p.m. in Republican party offices at 7110 Henry Clay Blvd., Liverpool.

On Sunday, Joe DioGuardi, the Conservative and Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, will do a precinct walk beginning at 11 a.m. at Anne Marie Buerkle Headquarters, 4453 E. Genesee St., DeWitt.

Buerkle is the Republican candidate for Congress representing the 25th district.
