Weedsport, NY -- New York State police have accused an Auburn man of stealing tolls from the Weedsport interchange on the New York State Thruway.
Edward M. Lukowski, 58, of 3 Koenig Court, is accused of falsifying business records in the first degree, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
New York State Thruway Authority auditors began investigating Lukowski after troopers developed information that he was embezzling toll receipts, police said.
On Oct. 21, while working at the Weedsport interchange, auditors saw Lukowski fail to document $44.85 in toll receipts for three trucks that exited through the toll plaza, police said. Further investigation showed that Lukowski then falsified records to conceal the theft, police said.
Lukowski is scheduled to appear in the Town of Brutus Court on Tuesday to answer the charges.
