Building at S. Salina and Adams streets is being leveled to make way for new Centro hub.
Syracuse, NY -- The face of downtown Syracuse starts to change today as demolition begins on the former American Red Cross building at South Salina and Adams streets.
The building is being leveled to make way for construction of Centro's new $14 million Transfer Hub, Centro spokesman Steve Koegel.
Crews began preparing the building for demolition earlier and the building went under the wrecking ball about noon.
Demolition is expected to last three to four weeks and construction is set to begin in early December, Koegel said. About a year after construction begins, the new, enclosed waiting facility will open, he said.
The facility, with a bus boarding area under a roof, will replace the transfer area at Fayette and South Salina streets.
