Sullivan, NY – A Rome man was charged with drug possession with the intention to sell after a traffic stop Saturday in Sullivan, Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley said.

Deputies on patrol about 3:45 a.m. Saturday on Route 31 saw a 1997 Cadillac drive from the lane to the shoulder several times and stopped the car, Riley said. During the stop the deputies found more than 20 packets of cocaine, cash, a quantity of methamphetamines and an assortment of unidentified pills that have been sent to the state police for testing, he said.

The driver, Joseph N. Williams, 31, of 910 Batavia Ave., Rome, was charged with criminal possession of a narcotic with the intent to sell, a felony, driving while drinking and lane-change violations, Riley said. He was arraigned in Sullivan town court and ordered held without bail at the Madison County Public Safety Building Jail pending an appearance Sept. 21 in Sullivan court.
