Syracuse, NY - Skaneateles car dealer Pat. J. Bombard was arraigned today on a six-count theft indictment in Onondaga County Court.

Defense lawyer Robert Durr said he believes the allegations involve more of a civil dispute than any criminal wrongdoing and he said he hoped to be able to work out a quick resolution.

But he said publicity about the indictment is hurting Bombard's car dealership and other business interests. Bombard is the owner of Bombard Chevrolet in Skaneateles.

Bombard, 54, of 39 Heritage Woods, was indicted two weeks ago on single counts of second-degree grand larceny and first-degree identity theft and two counts each of third-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud.

Most of the charges involve allegations Bombard stole customers' loan money that was supposed to be used to pay off other vehicles.

The most serious second-degree grand larceny charge involves a land-buying mortgage deal with an elderly neighbor who lost her life's savings as a result, according to Assistant District Attorney Beth Van Doren.

Durr entered a "not guilty" plea for Bombard at his arraignment. Judge Anthony Aloi allowed Bombard to remain free on his own recognizance and adjourned the case to Sept. 13 for a further conference with the lawyers.
