According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michaels is suing Michael Banks and Aloha Events for $5 million.
Singer Bret Michaels is suing local concert promoter Michael Banks and Aloha Events after Banks canceled Michaels' Syracuse show on August 5. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michaels is suing Banks for $5 million for "breaching his contract and exposing him to public contempt and ridicule with allegedly defamatory statements about his schedule." In the lawsuit, Michaels said he wasn't paid the first 10% deposit or a second 40% deposit, but still showed up to perform.
Michaels was set to perform at the Regional Market Block Party series on August 5, but when he showed up at the venue, he found out the show was postponed. Banks had originally announced the day before the show that it was being postponed because Michaels was scheduled to make a TV appearance. He promised that the show would be rescheduled and tickets purchased would be honored for the rescheduled date.
Michaels has said that he will return to Syracuse in November to play a show, using a different promoter. Michaels said that tickets purchased for the August 5th show will be honored at the November show. In the meantime, Banks is working out a way to try and refund the money to those who bought tickets for the August 5 show. "I personally will have to borrow the money to loan to the company to pay for the refunds," Banks said.
