Salina, NY -- A head-on crash Tuesday on Onondaga Lake Parkway was caused by a driver swerving to avoid an animal in the road, state police said.
Ghazal Nosrati, 18, of Liverpool, was going northbound in a Mercedes sedan around dusk when she saw a "dark-colored animal" and swerved, hitting a southbound Hyundai sedan driven by Maria DeSantis, 56, of Syracuse, troopers said.
Both were talking at the scene before being transported by ambulance to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Monday's fatal crash on Onondaga Lake Parkway happened less than a mile away. That four-vehicle crash was likely caused by a man who swerved into oncoming traffic during a road rage incident near the CSX railroad bridge, Sheriff Kevin Walsh has said.
One person was killed and four others were injured in that crash.
