Syracuse, NY – A 9-year-old Syracuse girl was taken to a hospital for evaluation after she admitted trying to set fire to her Hickory Street apartment, police said.
The fire, reported at 12:25 a.m., initially was thought to be accidental after the girl told investigators she had left a candle burning in a closet, police said. During a later interview, the girl, who was not identified by police, admitted that she intentionally left the candle burning because she wanted to start a fire to kill her two younger brothers, police said.
The girl was taken to the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program for evaluation and child protective and family services officials were notified, police said.
