Some students thought it was joke. Others worried they were being abducted and frantically called their parents.

There was only one thing the Ridgefield Park high schoolers knew for sure on Wednesday: They were trapped in a canary yellow school bus hurtling down the New Jersey Turnpike toward Six Flags Great Adventure with a driver who wouldn’t listen when they said they should be in class.

In the end, it was a simple mixup that ended with the students safe in school, Ridgefield Park Superintendent John Richardson said.
