Verona Beach, NY -- A Chittenango man died Wednesday evening while swimming at Verona Beach in Oneida Lake.
Here’s what New York state police say happened:
Roger J. Burdick, 50, of 2303 Osborne Road, was swimming with friends in Oneida Lake east of Forest Avenue. When they left the water, he stayed in. A short while later, his friends found him unresponsive in knee-deep water.
State police said the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m.
Burdick was taken by Vineall Ambulance to the Oneida Health Care Center where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was performed. State police said they are awaiting the results.
Burdick is not the Roger Burdick of Cicero, who is the president of Driver's Village, the company said this afternoon in an email.
"Driver's Village offers its condolences and prayers to the victim's family during this difficult time," the company said.
