Auburn police said the shooting appeared to be accidental but is still under investigation.
Authorities said the shooting occurred about 4 a.m. at a home on Sheridan Street.
The 11-year-old who fired a single shot from a .22-caliber rifle lived in the home where the shooting occurred. The 11-year-old who was shot in the mouth area was not a resident of the house, police said.
The injured youth was transported to University Hospital in Syracuse for emergency surgery, police said. No other details were available.
