Syracuse, NY - A Warners man on probation for an illegal sexual relationship with an underage girl was indicted today on similar charges involving an even younger girl that could send him to state prison for life.
Connor W. Izard, 27, of 111 Victory Lane, Warners, was arraigned before Onondaga County Judge Joseph Fahey on a felony charge of predatory sexual assault against a child and misdemeanor counts of second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Izard is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 12-year-old girl at a location in the town of Otisco between April 1 and May 31.
Sheriff’s Department officials reported Izard used an Internet chat room to befriend the young girl and lure her into sexual activity even though he knew she was just 12 years old.
Izard was arrested May 4 after an investigation by the Sheriff’s Abused Person’s Unit and the Onondaga County Internet Crimes Against Children (CAC) Task Force. Authorities said law enforcement had been called in after the girl reported the sexual contact to her mother.
Izard also is charged with violating probation in an earlier case involving a 16-year-old girl from Geneva. Authorities said he met that girl on the Internet as well.
Izard, then 22, was found with the 16-year-old girl at a Salina motel in December 2005 after an Amber Alert was issued when the girl’s parents reported her missing. The girl later pleaded guilty to falsely reporting an incident given evidence she had voluntarily run off with Izard.
Following a non-jury trial before Fahey, Izard was convicted in January 2007 of misdemeanor counts of sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child and acquitted of more serious felony charges of third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sexual act.
Fahey sentenced Izard in March 2007 to six years’ probation and time already served in jail. The judge also rated Izard a Level 1 sexual offender, the lowest level on the state’s registry.
Fahey today ordered Izard held in jail without bail on the new charges and the probation violation. The case was adjourned to Aug. 25 for motion arguments.
