Syracuse, NY – The threat of heavy rainfall that National Weather Service forecasters had predicted for the Syracuse area today has evaporated, in a manner of speaking.

Weather service officials earlier had thought that the potential was high for thunderstorms to bring brief, heavy rains into the region, perhaps strong enough to cause flooding in urban areas, said Priscilla Nicosia, a forecaster in the service’s Binghamton office.

By midmorning, it became apparent that the storm threat was steering south into Pennsylvania, she said. Stronger than expected winds should keep storms from brewing here, and if storms do arrive they will probably blow through quickly enough to avoid flooding, she said.
