Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top commander in Afghanistan, has been summoned to Washington D.C. after some controversial remarks he and his staff made about the Obama administration have been made public.

McChrystal was interviewed by freelance writer Michael Hastings for an article titled "The Runaway General," which will appear in Rolling Stone magazine on Friday.

McChrystal, who has already issued an apology, will face tough questions at Obama's regular monthly security team meeting on Wednesday at the White House.

According to Hastings' article, McChrystal thought President Obama was "unprepared" for their first meeting and described it as disappointing.

CNN reports that Hastings quotes an adviser to McChrystal as saying, "Obama clearly didn't know anything about him, who he was. Here's the guy who's going to run his (expletive) war, but he didn't seem very engaged."

Also in the article, one of McChrystal's aides describes National Security Advisor Jim Jones as a "clown," and other staffers joke about Vice President Biden.

McChrystal issued an apology about the profile, which he calls "a mistake reflecting poor judgment."

"I have enormous respect and admiration for President Obama and his national security team, and for the civilian leaders and troops fighting this war and I remain committed to ensuring its successful outcome," McChrystal said in a Pentagon statement.

Politico is reporting that as McChrystal heads to Washington, many are calling for him to resign or be fired for subordination.

Meanwhile, Afghan President Hamid Karzai came out in support of McChrystal on Tuesday.

"The president strongly supports General McChrystal and his strategy in Afghanistan and believes he is the best commander the United States has sent to Afghanistan over the last nine years," a spokesperson for Karzai said.
