Update:
Syracuse, NY – The driver of the mini school bus involved in a crash this morning on Syracuse’s Salt Springs neighborhood was ticketed for driving at an imprudent speed, passing a stop sign and failing to yield the right of way, police said.

The driver, Steven Riegelman, 42, of Pennellville, was treated for back pain at Upstate University Hospital and released, Sgt. Gary Bulinski said.

His only passenger, bus monitor Takeya Harper, 29, of Syracuse, also was taken to Upstate for neck and back pain, Bulinski said. Her condition was not available Monday afternoon.

Kathy Miller, 38, of Syracuse, the driver of a Hyundai sedan involved in the accident, was taken to Crouse Hospital with back pain, Bulinski said. A Crouse spokeswoman said they had no record of Miller being at the hospital.

No pupils were aboard the bus when it collided with Miller’s car about 8:15 a.m. at Ball and Milnor avenues. The bus belongs to First Student and was to pick up children for the Syracuse City School District.

Police said the bus was heading north on Ball Avenue when it went through a two-way stop sign, entered the intersection with Milnor and collided with Miller’s westbound Hyundai. The bus flipped onto its driver’s side and spun, coming to rest facing south against a roadside tree.
