The Syracuse Technology Garden today officially launched its Student Sandbox, a summer program that provides office space and mentoring to businesses started by students.

The Tech Garden, a business incubator run by CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity at 235 Harrison St., started the program last year as a prototype and helped to launch Brand-Yourself, which enables customers to manage their online reputations.

On Friday, officials opened a 4,000-square-foot space that will house the offices of 12 student businesses this summer. The space was designed by Syracuse University's COLAB at the School of Visual and Performing Arts.

Student teams will receive 12 weeks of coaching to get them ready for launch. More than 40 professionals have volunteered to assist the students with business, legal and technical advice.

Students from Syracuse University, Le Moyne College, Cayuga Community College, Onondaga Community College, Morrisville State College and the State University College of Environmental Science and Forestry are eligible to apply for the program.

The student teams this summer include:

• Dreamfetcher, a connection site for professionals seeking "an ideal employment position."
• Jamlynx, a social network site for musicians, allowing them to connect with others with similar musical interests
• Skill Addiction, a gaming website providing a platform for players to connect and compete in tournaments for cash and prizes.
• Grafighters, the first online game for hand-drawn characters to compete with each other.
