Update:
Syracuse, NY--The ramp from Interstate 81 north to Interstate 481 north will be closed periodically today as crews remove a trash truck that overturned on the ramp and clean up the smelly mess strewn along the side of the road.
Michael Hatalla, 58, of Wolcott, was driving a truck for We Care Transportation of Weedsport on I-81 north when shortly before 6 a.m. the load of garbage shifted on the tightly curved ramp onto I-481 north causing the vehicle to roll over, said Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan.
The truck slid on its side across the left side of the ramp spewing black and white garbage bags, what looked like an old couch, and other garbage along the grassy shoulder.
Hatalla was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment of a broken clavicle and ribs and bruised lungs, Connellan said.
The ramp from I-81 to I-481 will close periodically throughout the day today to allow crews to off load garbage from the truck, right it, and clean up the shoulder, he said.

Syracuse, NY-- A trash truck overturned on the Interstate 81 ramp to Interstate 481 north this morning, spewing trash all over the shoulder of the tight curve and briefly closing the ramp during rush-hour traffic.
The We Care Transportation truck overturned at about 5:54 a.m. The cab of the blue truck could be seen on its side from the Brighton Avenue bridge over the I-81 ramp to I-481.
A Syracuse police car blocked the ramp, detouring traffic from going to I-481 north. The ramp was open to traffic again shortly after 7 a.m.
From skid marks through the grass, it appeared that the truck slid off the west side of the ramp before tipping over. Black and white plastic bags of trash, an old couch, coffee containers and diapers are strewn along the shoulder of the road.
