Florida, NY -- State police arrested a West Virginia man, saying he had nearly a half-million dollars in forged money orders in his car.
Anthony Raines, 26, of Scott Depot, W.Va., was pulled over in the town of Florida, near Amsterdam, for a traffic infraction, police said, when they found 500 money orders for $950 each and a small quantity of marijuana.
Also, police said, the license on Raines's vehicle had been reported as stolen hours earlier in New York City.
Raines was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first degree, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic infractions. He was arraigned in the Town of Florida Court and sent to the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
State police, with the help of the Secret Service, are continuing their investigation.
