Oswego, NY -- Oswego has been put on the list of "America's Top 200 Towns for Sportsmen" by Outdoor Life magazine.

The magazine has cited Oswego for its fishing and hunting opportunities. The magazine, which has a paid circulation of 750,000 readers and reaches an audience of 5.7 million sportsmen and women, has as its June/July cover a story on America’s best towns for sportsmen, with Oswego ranked number 138.

The city also is also listed in the top 20 towns for best trout and bass fishing.

“The Oswego County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs and its 24 affiliated member clubs have long recognized what the city and county have to offer to hunters, fishermen and trappers," said Chuck Parker, president of the Oswego County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs. "Lake Ontario, Oneida Lake and the Salmon and Oswego Rivers are just the better known lakes and rivers that offer a quality fishing experience. There are many other rivers, lakes and streams that offer similar high quality fishing opportunities."

He also said the northern zone big game and small game opportunities "of the Tug Hill are hard to beat. Our southern zone hunting opportunities are also widely enjoyed by many."

Parker said there also are huge chances to see all types of birds since the Oswego area is within a major migratory bird flyway.

Many of the towns on Outdoor Life’s top 200 list are located in western and midwestern states like Colorado, Idaho and South Dakota. Oswego is one of only five communities in New York state to make the list. Other towns include Saratoga Springs, ranked number 95; Saranac Lake, 140; Niagara Falls, 181; and Cornwall, 193.

For up-to-date fishing conditions and visitor information throughout the year, go to the county's website or call (800) 248-4FUN (4386).
