Should the nation pursue an alternative to oil?

After an update came that the government’s point man on the Gulf of Mexico oil spills said that the catastrophe will persist “well into the fall,” syracuse.com users had a lot of questions about BP’s and the government’s efforts to stop and clean the man-made disaster. Here’s what syracuse.com user krsmed had to say:
"Disgusting. BP has failed and it has done so not just by the oil disaster, but it lied in explaining that it could handle oil spills. I only hope that we as a nation rapidly pursue an alternative to oil. Oil is the fuel that powers this country to its own funeral."
