Oneida Indian Nation leader Ray Halbritter was one of 200 invited guests at the White House Wednesday night at a gathering honoring former Beatle Paul McCartney, the Oneida nation press office said.

The Oneidas said Halbritter was the only Indian leader at the event, which was also attended by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, comedian Jerry Seinfeld and musician Stevie Wonder.

McCartney sang one of his signature love songs, "Michelle," to First Lady Michelle Obama. He was awarded the third Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress.

Halbritter has been at the White House before. Last year, he was part of a tribal contingent that met with Obama, and in 2004 he and other Indian leaders met with President George W. Bush.
