Richard Lovell.JPGRichard D. LovellSyracuse, NY - A Syracuse man was sentenced today to 16 1/2 years in state prison for sexually molesting a little girl for more than a year.

Richard D. Lovell, 59, of E. Brighton Ave., had nothing to say before Onondaga County Judge Anthony Aloi imposed the sentence agreed to when Lovell recently pleaded guilty to first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child.

"It goes without saying, you should be ashamed of yourself," the judge told Lovell.

Syracuse police had accused Lovell of sexually abusing three young girls when the defendant first was arrested in November.

Assistant District Attorney Janet Fall said Lovell admitted engaging in sexual acts with the oldest of the three girls on two or more occasions from 2006 through 2007 when the victim was younger than 13. There was no evidence to support allegations Lovell touched the two younger girls, she said.

But authorities did find photographs Lovell had taken of the three girls when they were naked, the prosecutor said. Officials also discovered child pornography on the defendant's home computer, shel said.

In exchange for Lovell accepting the lengthy state prison sentence, the District Attorney's Office and federal officials agreed not to prosecute him on child pornography charges, Fall said.
