Syracuse, NY--The Downtown Farmers Market will reopen for the season Tuesday in a temporary location in Clinton Square.
The market presented by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse is relocating while Onondaga County completes a $179,300 project to reduce storm water run off and improve the landscaping at the market's old site at Washington and Clinton streets.
Officials will decide on a week-by-week basis when to move from the temporary site on West Water Street in Clinton Square back to the lot at Washington and Clinton streets, said Kevin Schwab, speaking for the Downtown Committee.
The farmers market operates from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 12.
Some 35 vendors will set up shop on the first day, which includes a free performance by country band Southern Comfort from 12 to 2 p.m.
When the market returns to its old location customers will see a row of native trees replacing an old guardrail. Bushes and shrubs will also be a part of the landscaping, and a porous paver surface will be added in the center island.
The new configuration will allow storm water to flow to the center island and be captured in a stone bed under the parking surface instead of flowing directly into the sewer system.
