Update: As Republican state delegates prepared to choose an attorney general candidate, Onondaga County Comptroller Robert Antonacci said he expected his opponent, Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan, to win.
Antonacci predicted Donovan would capture nearly 70 percent of the vote and that Antonacci would get close to 30 percent. Although anything over 25 percent would qualify Antonacci for a primary, he said he will drop out of the race if he loses the nomination today.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Onondaga County Comptroller Robert Antonacci this morning said he expects to capture more than 25 percent of the vote this afternoon when Republican delegates choose their candidate for state attorney general.
Antonacci predicted his opponent, Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan, would capture the nomination with close to 70 percent of the vote.
Antonacci would qualify for a primary battle against Donovan if he wins at least 25 percent when delegates vote this afternoon. He said he would wait until after the vote to decide whether to pursue a primary, but he was not getting much encouragement.
“We’re getting some advice from various parties that an AG primary wouldn’t be in the best interest of the party,” he said.
