Syracuse, NY – Republican committee members from the 119th and 120th Assembly districts are expected to designate candidates tonight to run for those seats in November.

Two Republicans have emerged to seek the 119th district seat, party Executive Secretary Carole Marsh said. They are Christina Fadden Fitch, who ran unsuccessfully against incumbent Democrat Joan Christensen in 2008, and John W. Sharon, a senior assistant with the Onondaga County Attorney’s office.

Christensen is retiring at the end of 2010. The Democrats have designated Syracuse City Auditor Philip LaTessa to run.

Seeking the GOP designation for the 120th district contest are Rick Guy, a former city councilor and corporation counsel, and David Andrew Gay Sr., who unsuccessfully sought the party’s designation two years ago to run for the 25th Congressional District seat held by Democrat Dan Maffei.

They’re gunning for the seat held by Bill Magnarelli, D-Syracuse, since 1999.

The meetings are scheduled to convene at 6 p.m. at Pastime Athletic Club, 1314 N. Salina St., Syracuse.

The designation would give the winners the party’s help in gathering signatures on petitions needed to get them on the November ballot. Other candidates also can petition using their own volunteers; those who gather enough signatures can force a primary in September.
