Watertown, NY - An Onondaga mother and her two children were taken to a Watertown hospital Monday after the car they were in was sideswiped by another vehicle when the driver fell asleep, state police said.

Five people were taken to the hospital after the accident that occurred at 1:48 p.m. on State Route 3 in the Town of Housfield, Jefferson County.

State police said the accident occurred when a 1997 Jeep Cherokee driven by Jordan Willette, 20, of Canton, was traveling eastbound on State Route 3. Willette apparently fell asleep while driving and crossed over into the westbound lane, police said.

The Jeep sideswiped a vehicle being driving by Heather Peers, 16, of Onondaga, before rolling over and landing on the road’s shoulder.

Heather Peers sustained minor scrapes. Her mother, who was seated in the front passenger seat, Tina M. Peers, 43, of Onondaga, complained of back pain. The rear seat passenger Ryan Peers, 18, of Onondaga was admitted to the hospital for possible internal injuries.

Willette was listed in stable condition with a fractured leg. His passenger, Kyle D. Hawley, 20, of Norwood, was examined for possible internal injuries.

Willette was issued tickets for failure to keep right and not wearing a seatbelt. Hawley was also given a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.

The injured were taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown by Sackets Harbor Ambulance, Henderson Ambulance, Town of Watertown Ambulance, Dexter Ambulance and Guilfoyle Ambulance.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Departmemt and Sackets Harbor, Town of Watertown and Dexter fire departments.
