Syracuse, NY – A rally is being planned for Wednesday in downtown Syracuse to protest an Israeli commando raid on a flotilla of ships carrying aid and pro-Palestinian activists to the Gaza Strip.
The protest at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the James M. Hanley Federal Building is being organized by CNY Working for a Just Peace in Palestine and Israel, an educational and advocacy group coordinated by the Syracuse Peace Council.
Nine passengers died and dozens of activists and six Israeli soldiers were wounded Monday in the raid, provoking an international outcry and causing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cancel a meeting in Washington today with President Obama.
The flotilla was organized to call attention to the blockade of Gaza imposed three years ago by Israel and Egypt after Hamas took control of the territory.
