The state removed four Central New York schools from its roster of schools that need to improve and added four others to it, state education officials said Thursday. Another 21 local schools that were already on the list stayed there. Most of them are in Syracuse, which is by far the largest school district in the region.
The story, and list of schools, led some users of syracuse.com to add their comments. Some blamed the situation on immigrants, and a few others on poor Syracuse City School District leadership.
But one syracuse.com user noted that the schools need help and urged people to get involved. Here's what that user, LakeEffectOne, had to say:
"I'm currently volunteering in a second grade class at one of the Syracuse K-8 schools. I felt compelled to do so because of what I'd heard from my sister, who is a career elementary teacher on the West Coast, and confirmed through observation of my grandson's class earlier this year."As fowlerfan251 has stated, the effort being made by teachers, student and administrators is intensive and the task before us is daunting. By all means, if you're the parent or grandparent of a Syracuse student, have time available and skills to offer, look into volunteering at your child's school."
