Wampsville, NY -- Nine employees of Madison County stores were cited for selling alcohol to minors during a sheriff’s office sweep of 27 stores on Oct. 30 to make sure IDs are checked during alcohol purchases.
Sheriff’s deputies sent a person under 21 years of age into the stores to attempt to purchase alcohol and to see if the store clerks would ask for an ID, deputies said. Clerks that did not ask for ID and sold the underage person alcohol were charged by deputies with unlawfully dealing with a child, a misdemeanor.

Carol A. Beach, 53, 8945 Swamp Road, Waterville, at Kling’s Mill, Swamp Road, Brookfield.
Don R. Orvis, 51, of 1608 Smith Road, Hamilton, at Village Liquor, Lebanon Street, Hamilton.
Thomas M. Hicks, 19, of 7312 Route 20, Madison, at A&W, Route 20, Madison.
Theresa M. Bishopp, 19, of 6374 Oxbow Road, Canastota, at A&W, Route 26, Eaton.
Mark E. Allen, 21, of 38 Brookside Drive, Saratoga Springs, at McKinnon Liquors, Nelson Street, Cazenovia.
James P. Ruger, 17, of 2891 Ridge Road, Cazenovia, at Rite Aid, Nelson Street, Cazenovia.
Lauren J. Keyes, 19, of 595 Long Road, Tully, at Kinney Drugs, Albany Street, Cazenovia.

All of those charged were issued an appearance ticket.
