Albany, NY -- Three Central New York police agencies and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office have received grants through the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, the division announced today.

Cortland police received $35,000, with $25,000 to institute a program where officers will go on follow-up calls to homes where they had responded to domestic violence calls and $10,000 to collect DNA evidence at the scene of all reported burglaries, the Division of Criminal Justices said in a news release.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office received the $10,000 grant for DNA evidence at burglary scenes and the Oswego and Auburn police departments both received $25,000 to target domestic violence incidents.

The one-time grants are funded through the federal Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program. The Division of Criminal Justice Services targeted the grants to Upstate agencies that serve smaller cities and suburban towns, as well as suburban and rural counties, according to the release.
