Today's "ruin your appetite before lunch" story comes from Russia, where hungry bears are digging up and eating corpses in graveyards. The Guardian reports that the bears' traditional food (mushrooms, berries and frogs) has disappeared after a scorching summer near the Arctic Circle.
A similar thing happened a couple years ago, and after one bear learned how to open a coffin he taught the other bears, Masha Vorontsova, Director of the International Fund for Animal Welfare in Russia, told The Guardian. "The bears raided graveyards because they offered a supply of easy food, she said, a bit like a giant refrigerator," The Guardian reported.
