Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse man pleaded guilty this morning to a drug charge, agreeing to spend two years in prison.
As part of Daniel Carrasquillo's guilty plea to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, Onondaga County Judge William Walsh dropped felony charges against Carrasquillo's co-defendant and girlfriend, Ana Vazquez.
Walsh also agreed to dismiss the remaining misdemeanor count against Vazquez, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, if she stays out of trouble for six months.
The couple was charged after Syracuse police executed a search warrant July 27 at their first floor apartment at 1460 E. Genesee St. Police found 149 envelopes of heroin and $2,970 in cash, Assistant District Attorney Bridget Scholl said.
Carrasquillo maintained that the heroin was his, not Vazquez's.
His sentence also is to include 1 1/2 years of post-release supervision. He and Vazquez also agreed to forfeit the cash seized by police.
Walsh set Carrasquillo's sentencing for Jan. 11.
