A retired Air Force general will be SRC Inc.’s new president and CEO, the company said today.

The search committee of SRC’s board of trustees announced that Robert Behler will become the company’s president and CEO on Dec. 1. The company announced earlier this year that President and CEO Bob Roberts will be retiring.

Before retiring from the Air Force as a major general in 2003 and joining industry, Behler had a 31-year military career, serving in command positions at Langley Air Force Base, where he was an adviser to the secretary and chief of staff of the Air force. He also served as deputy commander of NATO Joint Headquarters North in Stavanger, Norway, and was the senior U.S. military officer in Scandinavia.

In addition, Behler served as director of command, control, communication, computers and intelligence at the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, and as chief of the U.S. Air Force Senate Liaison Office.

He was a command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours in many types of aircraft, including the SR-71 and U-2 reconnaissance planes, and commanded the 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron, the 9th Operations Group and the 9th Reconnaissance Wing.

Behler was most recently senior vice president and general manager of MITRE Corp.’s Command and Control Center.

Before joining MITRE, he was the general manager of precision engagement at Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory, supervising scientists and engineers working on command, control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance programs for the Department of Defense.

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1970 and 1972, respectively.

He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base and was a National Security Fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in 1990. He received an Masters in Business Administration from Marymount University in 1991.

“We believe that Bob possesses the skills and experience that will lead SRC into the next era of success,” said Roberts.
