Oswego, NY -- An Oswego teen has been charged with felony assault, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and other offenses as the result of a serious car crash March 6 on Route 481 near Churchill Road.
Oswego police said William S. Matott, 19, of 95 W. Albany St., was driving a car south on Route 481 when he struck a second car heading north on Route 481. Mattot and the driver of the other car, Kendra Jane Lemire, 21, of Alberta, Canada, were seriously injured.
It was a near head-on collision, police said.
Both were taken to Upstate University Hospital. Lemire, a student at the State University College at Oswego, is still recovering in the hospital.
Oswego Police and state police did an accident reconstruction and found Matott was driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 of a percent, driving 68 mph in a 55 mph zone and driving with a temporary spare tire on the car. He also was found to be driving with a suspended license.
Matott was arrested Monday when he was released from the hospital. He was arraigned in Oswego City Court on the felony assault, misdemeanor DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, failure to keep right and driving without a seatbelt.
He was released on his own recognizance and will return to court July 6.
