Syracuse, NY - A man in his 20s was killed in a shooting shortly before 7 p.m. tonight on Syracuse’s near west side, Syracuse police said.

The victim, who was not identified by police, was found in a front yard in the 300 block of Putnam Street, police said.

Witnesses said they heard at least six shots and saw the man bleeding from the head on the grass.

Sgt. Gary Bulinski said a fight broke out about a block and a half away on Putnam Street that spilled into the yard where the man was found. He would not say how many times the man was shot or how many people were involved in the fight.

Syracuse police closed Putnam Street between Geddes and Bradley as they searched for evidence.

Police were investigating whether a nearby shooting in the 500 block of Seymour Street was related to the homicide. In that 8 p.m. shooting, a man was treated at Upstate University Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg, Bulinski said. The injury wasnt considered life-threatening.

Anyone with information on either shooting may call police at 442-5222.
