Onondaga Nation -- A LaFayette man was ticketed after the car he was driving crashed through a house on the Onondaga Nation early this morning, sheriff’s deputies said.
Tom Soares, 24, of LaFayette, was charged with speeding and leaving the scene of an accident, Detective Jon Seeber said.
About 3 a.m., the car Soares was driving left Route 11A, went airborne and then struck a tree, Seeber said. Both the tree and the car crashed into the front of the home. The car continued through the house and out the back, finally stopping when it hit another tree, Seeber said.
No one was in the house during the crash and no one was in the car when firefighters arrived, said Onondaga Nation Fire Chief Ronnie Shenandoah said.
“The front of the house was gutted,” said Shenandoah, who called National Grid to cut the power to the house. “The roof was sagging and I didn’t want a fire to start over there.”
The owner of the car, Blake Gale, was a passenger in the car at the time of the crash, Seeber said. He was not ticketed.
