Former president wants to fire up Democratic voters in Central New York.
Washington -- Former President Bill Clinton, in an effort to fire up local Democratic voters, plans to visit Central New York on Monday to campaign for U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei, D-DeWitt.
Clinton will appear at a rally with Maffei at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the State Police hangar at Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
The rally will be open to the public, with parking on site, according to Maffei's campaign. The hangar is on the south side of the airport at 113 Tuskegee Road.
The visit is a sign of the importance of Upstate New York to Democrats as the party attempts to hold onto control of Congress. Republicans need a net gain of 39 seats to win the majority in the House of Representatives.
Maffei’s opponent, Republican Ann Marie Buerkle, has also attracted top party officials to Central New York. House Minority Leader John Boehner is among those who have campaigned for Buerkle.
