Stockbridge, NY -- A Hamilton man was killed Thursday when the car he was driving was hit by another vehicle that had swerved to avoid an accident, state police said.
Dale L. Soderberg, 81, was declared dead at the scene following the crash about 4:30 p.m. on state Route 46, Stockbridge, troopers said.
Here’s what happened, according to state police:
Amanda S. Curtis, 25, of Oneida, was driving a 2001 Ford Windstar north on Route 46 near Pratts Road and failed to see that a northbound pickup truck in front of her car had stopped and was preparing to turn left into a driveway.
Curtis swerved to avoid the truck. The Windstar went into the oncoming lane and collided nearly head-on with a 2010 Mercury Milan being driven by Soderberg.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged. Curtis was pulled from her car and taken by Vineall Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital with pelvic fractures and a chest injury.
Her passenger, Brandon Curtis, 24, of Munnsville, also went by Vineall Ambulance to Upstate for treatment for back, chest and hand pain.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending, state police said.
