Albany, NY — A law enforcement official close to the case says former New York state Comptroller Alan Hevesi is expected to plead guilty to felony corruption charges for taking gifts while running the state’s multibillion-dollar pension fund.
The official says Hevesi turned himself into law enforcement officials early Thursday.
The official says the charge accuses Hevesi of accepting rewards and gifts for official misconduct.
The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the plea has not been made yet, says Hevesi is scheduled to be before the same judge who has handled pleas in Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s investigation of a pay-to-play scandal involving the pension fund.
Hevesi, a Democrat, controlled the pension fund until his resignation in 2006 when he pleaded guilty to a felony for using state workers to chauffeur his wife.
