Cicero, NY – A Syracuse man whom police said led them on a high-speed chase Tuesday and forced cars off the road through Syracuse’s northern suburbs was caught later in a Carousel Center restroom.

The incident started about 3:35 p.m. Tuesday when a vehicle carrying Hugo L. Ortiz-Robles, Amanda A. Godin and Katherine E. Turner drove off from a reported larceny at Famous Footwear, 7954 Brewerton Road, Cicero, North Syracuse police said today.

When a North Syracuse officer stopped the car on North Main Street in the village, Ortiz-Robles fought with the officer and sped away, despite receiving a blast of pepper spray, police said. Godin got out of the car before it took off.

The vehicle reached 80 mph, forced several cars off the road and ran at least three red lights as North Syracuse and state police followed it south on Main Street to the Northern Lights Circle and Interstate 81 south, police said.

Police broke off the chase at Seventh North Street, but the vehicle later was found parked near Macy’s at Carousel Center. Officers surrounded the store and a Syracuse police dog found Ortiz-Robles and Turner in the second-floor bathroom where he was trying to wash the pepper spray from his face, police said.

He was arraigned in North Syracuse village court and ordered held at the Justice Center Jail on bail of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond pending a court appearance Monday.

Turner, 21, of 125 county Route 54, Pennellville, and Godin, 25, of 123 Parker Ave., Salina, both were charged with criminal possession of stolen property and several other misdemeanors and issued appearance tickets, police said.
