Did you see Syracuse China, the former WTVH-TV studios, CNY Works Inc., CXTec, and Onondaga Central High School?
ABC aired its "Going Home" series Monday evening on "World News with Diane Sawyer," featuring reporter David Muir's trip to his hometown Syracuse. Muir shed light on how people here were getting by during tough economic times.
Among the images in the story included Syracuse China, the former WTVH-TV studios, CNY Works Inc., CXTec, and his Alma Mater Onondaga Central High School.
Muir interviews Tim Loucks who worked at Syracuse China for nearly 20 years before getting laid off last year.
"They think they can fool the rest of the world into thinking they're making Syracuse China [in Syracuse], when they're actually making it in China ... China," said Loucks.
Although folks are struggling with lay offs, they try to better themselves by training in other skills. Muir points this out with several examples.
He visits CNY Works Inc., a nonprofit organization located in downtown Syracuse that helps the unemployed find work. His camera crew films a room in CNY Works where rows of computer stations are filled with unemployed folks.
"You absolutely tell them all is not lost; that those jobs skills can be applied elsewhere," said Lenore Sealy, executive director at CNY Works Inc.
