East Syracuse, NY -- An East Syracuse teenager was sentenced today to one to three years in state prison in connection with a Manlius burglary.
Kevin Haines, 17, of 508 Fremont Road, East Syracuse, pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to second-degree burglary. He had been charged Feb. 6 after he broke into a house on East Dauenhauer Street, Manlius, to steal a handgun, Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Cali said.
Onondaga County Court Judge Joseph Fahey turned down a defense request to let Haines serve the time in a local jail.
"That's not the agreement we reached," he said.
He did grant Haines youthful offender status, which will keep the felony conviction off his criminal record.
