Syracuse, NY -- A collision between an Onondaga County sheriff’s deputy’s cruiser and a SUV resulted in three people going to area hospitals and one traffic ticket.
Police said Deputy Joseph Bill was driving east on Court Street with lights and sirens on, headed to a reported larceny at a gas station on Teall Avenue, when a red Ford Explorer stopped in front of him. Bill attempted to pass the SUV on the left, but was struck as the SUV turned to enter Assumption Cemetery.
The driver of the SUV, Nancy Grant, 44, of 3728 Warners Road, Camillus, was ticketed for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.
Grant was taken to Community Hospital with neck pain. Also transported was Lucy Cook, 93, a passenger in Grant’s SUV. Two passengers in the rear of Grant’s SUV were unhurt.
Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. John D’Eredita said Bill’s injuries were minor, and he was taken by another deputy to Upstate University Hospital.
D’Eredita said the suspect in the gas station larceny allegedly drove off without paying for fuel and was later discovered in the parking lot at Shop City.
