Phoenix, NY -- New York State police and Oswego County sheriff's deputies found no one inside a house at 106 Cherry St. where a home invasion had taken place earlier.
Police had blocked off Cherry Street for about two hours. The Oswego County SWAT team set off a flash bang grenade and entered the house. They did not find anyone, said Phoenix Police Chief Rod Carr.
Two shots were reported earlier inside the house. A resident of the second-story apartment escaped unharmed after two armed men came into the house and fired shots.
No one was hurt.
Police are looking for two men armed with a silver handgun.
A white car, possibly a Ford sedan with a different colored hood, may have been outside acting as a lookout, police said.
The incident may be related to an invasion style robbery attempt that took place this morning in Casual Estates, in Clay, but police said they can’t confirm that.
The suspects are similar in both cases, Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd said.
Carr said he was around the corner from the house when he got the call about shots having been fired.
Carr said he escorted the first-floor resident out of the house. She was greatly afraid, he said.
Using a bullhorn, Carr said he tried several times to contact people inside the house.
Carr said he was grateful for the response by state police and sheriff's deputies.
“I was here all by myself and all it took was a phone call,” he said.
The Phoenix Central School District had placed its schools in "lockout" during the incident, the district office said. Students were allowed to walk within the school, but were not allowed outside.
