Syracuse, NY – Nationally known education reformer Steve Perry will return to Syracuse on Friday as the featured speaker at the Syracuse University WellsLink transitions ceremony. The event, at 4 p.m. at Hendricks Chapel, is free and open to the public.
Perry is founder and principal of the Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Conn. Its 337 students attend a school steeped in social justice, discipline and achievement, according to the school's website.
Capital Prep students go to school nearly year-round and on Saturdays. All graduates since 2006 have gone on to four-year colleges, school officials said
Perry will be accompanied by a contingent of Capital Prep seniors, a spokeswoman for the school said.
The trip is Perry’s second to Syracuse this year. Perry told an audience Feb. 27 at Bethany Baptist Church that large urban schools needed to restructure, fire inadequate teachers and set higher expectations for children.
