Syracuse, NY -- People across the Syracuse area can safely dispose of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday during the federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s first-ever Take Back Initiative.

DEA is teaming up with local police and businesses for the effort. Syracuse, Geddes, Camillus, Cicero, Manlius, Canastota, Cazenovia, Fulton, and Auburn police and the Onondaga, Oswego, Madison and Cortland county sheriffs offices are participating.

To find a dropoff point near you, go to www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/takeback/and follow the “Find collection site(s) near you” link, or click here.

The collection is meant to help people get rid of drugs before they are stolen and misused. Flushing or throwing out drugs can contaminate ground water and drinking water; DEA will incinerate the drugs it collects.
