To reduce the number of geese at Veterans Memorial Park at Gillie Lake in Camillus, the town plans to begin killing two geese a day beginning this week. The U.S. Bureau of Fish and Wildlife Service approved a permit for the town to shoot the geese, two a day for a total of 20 geese.

The story has generated a lot of comments, including some people offering to shoot the geese for free and others chiding the town for resorting to killing to solve the problem. Here's what syracuse.com user ThreeDogKnight had to say:

"They should consider bringing in some border collies or australian shepherds to keep the geese out of locations where the geese are are making a mess - there are a number of golf courses around the country that very successfully use herding dogs to manage the geese. I have two border collies and aussie that would love to do the job but they are too busy keeping pests out of my own yard. Bring on the herding dogs ! much more humane, and would provide additional entertainment watching these wonderful dogs do their job ! They really should consider this, it works and no animal is killed."
