Syracuse, NY -- Police this morning accused a Syracuse man of multiple charges, including possession of a weapon, after he lead them on a short chase.
Lamar Watts, 22, of 314 Pine St., is accused of criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degrees, both felonies. He is also accused of unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle third degree, resisting arrest, and reckless endangerment, all misdemeanors. He was also accused of unlawful possession of marijuana, and multiple other vehicle and traffic law violations.
Watts was sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center to await arraignment today in Syracuse City Court.
Here’s what police said happened.
At about 1:10 a.m. today a Syracuse police officer saw a Dodge Stratus driving without its headlights on and speeding on the 300 block of South Edwards Avenue.
The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver of the Stratus refused to stop and lead police on a short chase. The chase ended minutes later when the driver stopped in the 300 block of Pine Street.
After a short struggle with police, the driver was taken into custody.
Police said they recovered a loaded handgun that Watts threw from the vehicle during the chase.
