Syracuse, NY-- About a dozen members of a local Tea Party group passed out copies of the U.S. Constitution this afternoon to people walking past the federal building in Syracuse.
As some members of the Central New York Patriots gave out leaflets containing the Constitution, others walked along the sidewalk carrying American flags or a sign saying "Obama and Schumer give false witness to the Constitution."
Today is Constitution Day, which is celebrated Sept. 17, the day the Constitution was signed in 1787.
The group hoped to educate the public about the Constitution's contents, said Joanne Wilder, speaking for the Patriots, which is associated with the Tea Party movement.
“Our government has over-stepped their boundaries and it goes way, way back,” she said.
“It’s surprising how many people don’t know what’s in the Constitution,” Wilder said.
