Salina, NY – Traffic on Onondaga Lake Parkway will be restricted to one lane each way today as the state Department of Transportation repairs the railroad bridge damaged in Saturday’s fatal bus crash.

The westbound lanes from Syracuse to Liverpool are scheduled to close at 9 a.m so workers can replace seven aluminum panels covered with orange reflector material, said Hank Polech, speaking for DOT. Westbound traffic will be diverted to one of the two eastbound lanes and eastbound traffic will be cut to one lane, he said.

Officials hope to finish the work by 3 p.m., he said.

The orange panels help to warn drivers of tall vehicles about the low bridge, which gives 10 feet 9 inches of clearance. Four people died Saturday when a double-decker bus carrying 27 people slammed into the structure.
